You will need a DSLR (digital single lens reflex) camera for photography tours in specific. Please note, it is not a ‘point and shoot’ one. If you can take the lens off your camera and swap it for another lens, then most likely your camera is suitable.
In terms of lenses for the landscape photography it is advisable (but not compulsory) to have a wide angle lens with a wide fixed aperture such as: 16-35mm f2.8, 35mm f1.8, 24-70mm f2.8, 24-105mm f2.0, etc. If you have any other lenses then by all means bring that as well. A tripod will most definitely come in handy for long exposures and astro photography. However, you will be able to borrow and try out one of my Canon cameras, lenses or tripod if you wish to. In addition to that, any ND filters are useful to have for the long exposures (however it’s not essential). To learn about the post processing tips, a laptop with Lightroom installed would be beneficial (but again not essential).
If you are in doubt, please feel free to contact me. If you will be taking sightseeing tour in particular, then you can take any camera you wish.
As you will be shooting in RAW, I would suggest from 4GB to 8GB for the whole day, it should be enough for morning and evening shoot. If you got a laptop with you, and have the ability to transfer your images onto it, then it is great. For longer trips you would need more memory than this. So make sure you get plenty of it, otherwise please contact me and I can organise some for you.
You would need to bring the essentials with you such as:
- camera/ lenses/ tripod/ filters/ memory cards
- suitable clothing for all weather conditions
- comfortable walking/hiking shoes
- sunglasses & hat/cap
- sand fly spray
- any other personal items you might need (medication, insurance, etc.)
The majority of half & full day tour locations are within an easy walking distance. However, some of the tours (mostly multi day trips) might involve some hiking over the rough terrain, sometimes alongside river, while carrying your own camera gear (you will be advised about more difficult tracks beforehand). I recommend from an easy to a moderate level of fitness. I can also arrange specific locations in case you do not feel like walking or hiking much.
Please contact me to discuss this, so that I could accommodate to your needs.
Tours are very weather dependent activity so sometimes it might get cancelled. I will try my best to re-arrange and accommodate your tour for another day if possible also if weather permits and if that suits your travel schedule as well. If it cannot be re-arranged to another day, you will be refunded in full from whatever you paid originally.
Please get in touch via email to be picked up from your accommodation.
The business holds public liability insurance, however it does not offer life or personal insurance, although you are covered for medical treatment while in New Zealand under the Accident Compensation Commission. Therefore it is advisable to have your travel insurance with you.
